Nous (The Master Knows)

Before the light, before the dawn, before the world began
An infinite and formless mass, without a master plan
The seeds of life were buried deep, a chaotic, boundless sea
No hot or cold, no dark or light, no you and there’s no me
But sleeping in the cosmic dark, a power starts to rise
A force of pure intelligence to organize the skies

It’s the Mind! The mighty Nous
Lighting up the cosmic fuse
Starting up the great rotation
Spinning out the whole creation
Round and round the vortex goes
Where it stops, the master knows
Yeah, the master knows

There’s a little bit of everything in everything you see
There is iron in the water, there is fire in the tree
When you’re eating bread and honey, you are building up the bone
There is flesh inside the harvest, there is silver in the stone
It’s a universal recipe, an infinitely grand design
Separated by the vortex, but the pieces still align

It’s the Mind! The mighty Nous
Lighting up the cosmic fuse
Starting up the great rotation
Spinning out the whole creation
Round and round the vortex goes
Where it stops, the master knows

The priests of Athens cried aloud, they put me on the stand
They said the sun’s a golden god who rides across the land
I looked them in the eye and said, “You’re living in a lie
It’s just a massive, red-hot rock a-burning in the sky!”
They ran me out of town for blasphemy and speaking true
But the Mind is turning galaxies, it doesn’t care ’bout you

It’s the Mind! The mighty Nous
Lighting up the cosmic fuse
Starting up the great rotation
Spinning out the whole creation
Round and round the vortex goes
Where it stops, the master knows

Keep it spinning
The red-hot stone
Everything is everything
Let the vortex roll
